You can’t fool all the people all the time

I REFER to a front page article (Fianna Fáil did not mislead voters, says Ahern, Irish Examiner, May 19).

You can’t fool all the people all the time

The brass neck of our Taoiseach is mind-boggling. Does he think the electorate is both blind and deaf or perhaps in a coma since the hustings of last year?

Our government lied and conned its way back into power. I have Minister McCreevy on tape stating there would be no cutbacks, underhand or otherwise.

I have before me as I write, an election handbill sent to my home last year stating the following: "Back Bertie's team A lot done, more to do."

Yes, they have done a lot to us this past year: longer hours at A&E departments, extra trollies for the sick and dying, food prices going through the roof and extra VAT on home heating oil. Every pensioner was promised €10 in the budget, which was eroded with rising prices before we received it.

More false promises: protection of jobs, decent pensions, investment in education, smaller class sizes, modernisation of school buildings, the hiring of 2,000 more gardaí, investment in health and ending waiting lists.

All lies, damn lies.
