Wake-up call

THE Government’s move to undermine the Centre for Public Inquiry must alert all who value the due process of law, our democratic system, our sovereignty and citizens’ rights.

Wake-up call

The unprecedented activities of Justice Minister Michael McDowell in this matter make one wonder what threat was posed by the centre other than to reveal the truth on whatever issues it chose to investigate in the public interest.

The findings of the many tribunals highlight the need for such a centre to restore confidence across the public sector. The Government’s choice of such dangerous methods to stop it only confirms the absolute need for such an independent body.

The actions of the Taoiseach and the Minister for Justice are a cause of serious concern to all who uphold the right of Frank Connolly, and all other citizens of this State, to due process of law.
