Registry of Deeds sets a record of its own

THE Registry of Deeds in Ireland will celebrate its tercentenary in 2007.

From our initial research, it appears that it may be the oldest continuously operating government office in Ireland. Indeed, we think there would be few older organisations in this field anywhere in the world.

To mark the occasion we are anxious to gather material relating to its history, and this might be used in publications or other events to celebrate the tercentenary.

I invite any of your readers who may have articles, stories, photographs or other memorabilia relating to the office, its history or its staff, and would like to share them with us, to contact Declan Ward, Registry of Deeds, Henrietta Street, Dublin 7. Tel: 018048400 or email www.registryofdeeds.ie/300

We would also be pleased to hear from anyone who has ever worked in the registry or from members of their families.

Any items supplied will be returned as received.

We propose to use the website listed above to publish information about the tercentenary.
