I want to open the book on my family story
A search of national records in Dublin has produced three Mary Josephines of likely age from the Cork area. The obvious difficulty is identifying the right one, given that I don’t know my grandmother’s birth date.
Her occupation was shown as waitress in domestic service. The baby was subsequently fostered and contact was lost with the mother. There do not seem to be any archived records in relation to Mary Josephine’s pregnancy. The birth took place at the home of a midwife, Elizabeth Phillpots, whose address was also shown to be that of Mary Josephine. My mother died when I was a child. Her existence became a ‘closed book’ which I would just like to open up a little.
