Sloppy slurs do not speak for all of us

IT ill-becomes ASTI president Pat Cahill to describe Bertie Ahern as “a bit of a lad and fond of the birds and the beer” (Irish Examiner, September 12).

I am saddened that the leader of a union should cast such slurs on the character of a man most people regard as a fundamentally decent human being.

In disassociating myself from Mr Cahill’s remarks, I am sure I speak for the majority of my ASTI colleagues.
