Where are the new citizenship rules?

I WAS amazed to read that in spite of the citizenship referendum result, anyone who wants to take advantage of our current rules can still do so.

Where are the new citizenship rules?

What are the Government’s true intentions on this matter? Surely they had legislation prepared before the referendum.

We seem to have got hung up on this through the Good Friday Agreement which appears to have hijacked our ability to define ourselves as a nation.

Surely we can construct legislation that adequately defines the qualifications for citizenship, yet recognises the special status of Northern Ireland as effectively a state within a state, and that extends the offer of citizenship to those born there of genuine Irish origin, without taking almost another year to enact.
