Death of a saint

IT saddens me that Ireland will not have a national day of mourning for the Pope who loved Ireland so dearly.

According to Irish clergy he was concerned about the country’s spiritual future and had planned a second visit because of this. Ireland, in my opinion, has given up God for a different trinity: drink, capitalism, atheism.

Ignoring the death of a saint while other governments, not even Catholic, reckon that one day of mourning is not enough disappointed me - a Roman Catholic born in Rome who once thought Ireland had something to teach Rome.
