Aer Lingus fares up in the clouds between Boston and Berlin
Could it be that on its compass, Boston is closer to Dublin than Berlin?
I ask because last week I was quoted €445 for a return fare between Dublin and Berlin. In December I fly to Boston. Aer Lingus are charging me €385 for a return fare.
Now my daughter’s talking globe tells me that Dublin is 2,975 miles from Boston, as the crow flies, and a mere € 800 miles from Boston.
It takes six hours to fly from Dublin to Boston, and just one hour and 45 minutes from Dublin and Berlin.
So why, when Berlin is so much closer to our fair isle, is it so expensive to fly there? Is it any surprise that our tourism sector is so dependent on the US market, and that Aer Lingus operates so few direct routes to major European cities.
Perhaps Aer Lingus might consider changing its name to Aer Harney.
