Destruction of Israel is the Palestinians’ aim

ALI HALIMEH’s article (Sanctions may be the only way to stop Israel, the Irish Examiner, October 20) is riddled with untruths.

The most blatant of these is the false comparison between Israel’s unintentional killing of civilians and the deliberate targeting of innocent Israeli civilians on the Arab side, and the entirely false representation of Arab intentions.

The facts are that Israeli soldiers enter crowded neighbourhoods at great personal risk in order to target rocket-launching crews while minimising civilian casualties. At the same time, the Arab terrorists deliberately hide behind civilians in a cynical attempt to exploit Israeli sensitivity and create propaganda. Mr Halimeh misrepresents Arab views by stating that “The majority of Palestinians have consciously accepted peace and, more to the point, land for peace...”
