Shallow solidarity

THE utter hypocrisy of Britain and the US in the aftermath of the devastating bombings in Iraq on March 2 is breathtaking. Words like "evil" and "destroyers" being freely bandied about by Jack Straw and his American counterpart as they offered shallow "solidarity" with the suffering people of that tortured country.

It was just a year ago that they expected us to cheer as their own killing machines were dropping so many thousands of tons of high explosives and cluster bombs on the innocents of Iraq, as they conducted their unjustified war.

Our own Government is not blameless either they assisted then and continue to do so now, the war planes and soldiers which pass through Shannon, one of our main civilian airports, on their way to create further mayhem in Iraq. For shame.
