Talk won't get the trains back on track
Wonderful!
All he has to do is call the regional manager to be told:
1. The line could be operational in three months as it already exists.
2. CIE has the equipment available to run an hourly service to Midleton now.
3. Irish Rail management in Cork made a decision, supported at higher levels within CIE, not to re-open the line in the foreseeable future.
4. The board would need approval from Mr O'Flynn's party and this was explicitly refused by the Department of Transport, which happens to be headed by a member of Mr O'Flynn's party. The board is bound to carry out the wishes of our 'promise-a-day' minister.
Is Mr O'Flynn willing to vote against his minister and party for the re-opening of the Midleton line? The answer, of course, is no.
Look, the bottom line is that the
Midleton line would be re-opened in three months if anybody wanted it to.
If the chamber of commerce had the guts to do something instead of posturing like the politicians, then we might get somewhere, but right now all any of them can do is talk.
Does anybody in Cork really care enough to do something? Make me
regional manager and I guarantee it will be up and running in three months!
