Sisters’ campaign was headline news in US

WHAT a strange column from Terry Prone, asserting that the visit of the McCartney sisters received no media coverage in the US (Irish Examiner, March 21).

Sisters’ campaign was headline news in US

She claimed their visit to the White House “absolutely failed to reach the American public.”

This is not true.

Contrary to her assertion that it was “way too complicated’ for the US media to cover, a quick search through Google News showed the visit received substantial coverage in the US.

There were stories in Time magazine, the New York Times, the LA Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, the Philadelphia Inquirer, USA Today and on CNN. The story was picked up also by the major US news services.

A random sampling of the dozens of newspapers covering the story includes the Indianapolis Star, Florida’s St Augustine Record, the Kentucky Post, Montana’s Billings Gazette and Alabama’s Birmingham News.

Was it “way too complicated” for Ms Prone to check her facts?
