Horrendous cost of dismantling Aer Lingus

THE dithering by Bertie Ahern to placate the Aer Lingus unions and retain a few thousand votes in north Dublin is an intolerable exercise in pork-barrel politics.

Horrendous cost of dismantling Aer Lingus

After the company had been dragged by the scruff of the neck, at great expense to taxpayers in redundancy payouts, and turned into a viable and saleable entity, the management are being ejected and we will soon be back to square one, probably with the unions owning 20% of an unsaleable millstone - as it has been for decades.

The cost of dismantling this overmanned semi-State company has been horrendous and it seems it is not over yet. Is there any ransom this Government will not hesitate to pay with citizens’ money to retain popular support?
