Rail station toilets in disgusting state

RECENTLY I availed of the toilet ‘facilities’ at Kent Station, Cork. They are a complete disgrace especially in view of the fact that Cork is now European Capital of Culture.

Three out of the four urinals were covered with faeces, including walls, floors, and toilet dispensers.

The reason for this outrageous situation is vandalism by vagrants who use the toilets at night when they are not locked.

Having paid €52 for my train ticket, this was hardly value for money.

My disgust at the state of the toilets was made all the worse by the fact that a woman, who is probably earning the minimum wage, has to try to clean this filth routinely.

No one should have to work in such an environment. Where is the ‘culture’ in our fair city? Any person using the toilet facilities in Kent station would be revolted and sickened by such a fetid spectacle.

If this is the first greeting for visitors to our ‘city of culture’, maybe we should rename ourselves “Cork, city of exploitation, degradation and defecation”.
