Magical opera hits right note in City of Culture

CORK has got its opera back thanks to the Opera 2005 Company which recently staged three magical performances of Figaro’s Wedding. It played to packed, appreciative houses.

Ted Crosbie, chairman, his board of directors and all concerned must be very proud of the results of their efforts.

Your music critic, Declan Townsend, has already written glowingly of Figaro. I’d go along with him in saying that no one person should be singled out - they were all splendid.

A lady going down in the lift said to me: “There should be more of this!” I agree and have become a Friend of Opera 2005.

Those who say that our City of Culture events are negligible should have attended. Have they also been to visit the superb Glucksman Gallery at UCC, and the new wing of the municipal museum in Fitzgerald Park?

There’s lots to be enjoyed, but you have to seek to out.
