Indaver followed WHO guidelines in its planning

MARY O’LEARY claims we did not use the World Health Organisations WHO guidelines when selecting our site in Ringaskiddy for our proposed hazardous waste incinerator (Irish Examiner April 19th).

Indaver followed WHO guidelines in its planning

The WHO guidelines technical model was in fact one of a number of selection criteria used in selecting our site. The comprehensive 11-step WHO selection process used screening and exclusionary criteria which included successive investigations of sites in increasing detail. This methodology was followed by a team of engineers with experience in this complex area.

This is not the first time that opponents have accused Indaver of misrepresenting the World Health Organisation’s position on incineration. Readers who are interested in the debate should visit www.who.int/en to read the WHO’s position on incineration to get a balanced view.
