Traffic calming

AS we near Christmas, traffic on our roads has increased greatly, particularly in the vicinity of major shopping areas.

Traffic calming

This situation could be eased somewhat if non-working Christmas shoppers used some commonsense.

Most working people will not finish for the Christmas break until tomorrow, but they will still have to drive their normal route to work in the morning and return in the evening.

They have no choice in the times of day they travel, but last-minute Christmas shoppers do.

For the mutual benefit of commuters and shoppers, the traffic jams could be greatly reduced tomorrow if the shopping was done between 9.30am and 4.30pm, thus ensuring that the roads will be less crowded for workers on the move.

This would alleviate stress for both sets of drivers who would otherwise be stuck in traffic jams.

Let us hope commonsense prevails.
