Backward step

I AGREE with rugby commentator George Hook’s comments on Saturday last about the ending of the coverage of the Heineken Cup on terrestrial TV.

It is most certainly a backward step that a wider audience will be deprived of seeing the performances of Stringer, O'Driscoll, et al, as they move hopefully towards European glory.

Communications Minister Noel Dempsey should step in now and add the coverage of the provincial rugby games to the list of sporting events which are protected for terrestrial transmission.
