Chen ruling highlights real referendum issue
Reacting to the launch of Lawyers Against the Amendment he says he fears “we are going to have a rash of lawyers against the amendment, doctors against the amendment and other ad hoc attempts to give mouth-to-mouth breath of life to a cause which has atrophied and crumbled in the hands of Politicians Against the Amendment who have fled the field in the aftermath of the Chen case.”
The so-called media launches of these unelected and unrepresentative groups are great for getting column inches for those opposed to this referendum, but I reckon the public are well aware of this tactic following the ‘no to Nice’ fiasco.
The Chen decision has clearly put a hole in the bow of the no side’s argument in this debate, and has highlighted the problem that this referendum rightly aims to correct.
However, I do look forward to seeing how the good minister articulates this one on one of his many slick campaign posters.
