An ombudsman or a water cannon?

SINCE the recent riots in Dublin, comparisons have been made with the May Day riots in 2004.

GRA president Dermot O’Donnell is quoted as saying: “I think it's a symptom of the lack of investment and resourcing of An Garda Síochána that in almost two years we haven’t bought one of our own and we currently don’t have a water cannon available to us.”

Clearly he sees the two events as comparable. I think that most fair-minded people would not.
