Ambush memorabilia to go on display

THE Dripsey ambush memorial committee in Co Cork is gathering memorabilia and would welcome the assistance of readers.

The ambush of British troops took place on January 28, 1921, and a month later five volunteers captured at the scene were executed in Victoria Barracks, Cork (now Collins Barracks).

Since that fateful day, the men are remembered at a commemoration ceremony in Dripsey each year. The organising committee would like to hear from anybody who may be able to provide pictures, leaflets, press clippings or film material from these gatherings. Books relating to the ambush and its aftermath also would be welcome.

The aim is to display such items at a suitable location in the Dripsey area. Material can be forwarded to Jerry Brennan (chairman), at Agharinagh, Dripsey, or to me at the address below.
