Roy took the prawn sandwich and ran

I WAS not one bit surprised at the retirement of Roy Keane. I felt that he had lost all interest in the Irish cause, as was shown in his display at Landsdowne Road against Nigeria — Ireland’s final friendly before they left for Saipan. He showed no commitment that day and I think his antics in the Far East were a smokescreen.

Roy took the prawn sandwich and ran

He showed he had joined the 'prawn sandwitch' lot. How could our 'world-class' player used to great on-field company at Man Utd take the world stage with a shower of half-baked performers who could hardly get on their own premier division teams?

That was the prospect facing him and he decided to take the 'professional' route and run. McCarthy and his journeymen stood up for the flag and did us proud. The FAI failed in their duty to let Keane know that as a result of his betrayal of the Irish team, he would not be welcome back.
