THERE is a need to reform social housing administration.

Social housing reform should be a priority

Firstly, there is considerable overlap and duplication between the local authorities and the HSE regions. The local authorities maintain the housing lists and allocate houses, but the HSE is responsible for emergency accommodation for homeless people.

The local authorities are responsible for the registration of private rented accommodation, but the HSE administers the rent allowance schemes.
