The way forward

ITALY’S Milan-Bergamo airport recorded 2.8 million passengers in 2003 (not dissimilar to Shannon’s 2.4m and Cork’s 2.2m) and has just announced profits were up by 93% to €3.46m.

The way forward

Ryanair opened a base in Milan-Bergamo in 2002, and now has nine daily international European routes.

In 2003, Ryanair carried 1.4m passengers to and from Milan-Bergamo, and this year that figure will grow to almost two million passengers.

The low costs/low fares formula is delivering high passenger tourism and job growth at Milan-Bergamo airport, and at many other airports throughout Europe. This is not rocket science... this is how the future of Cork and Shannon airports can be secured.
