Adoption group challenges politicians

KNOW MY OWN was formed recently at a large public meeting called to discuss the proposed legislation on adoption information. We include people who were adopted, people who adopted and people who gave children up for adoption.

Adoption group challenges politicians

We are outraged at the proposed legislation, sub-section 8, head 7 which states: “It will be a summary offence for an information recipient, or someone acting on his or her behalf, to make written, verbal, electronic or personal contact, or attempt to contact or harass a person who has lodged a Contact Veto and a fine or imprisonment for a period not exceeding twelve months shall apply in the case of a person or persons found guilty of such an offence.”

We would like our politicians to explain the thinking behind this section of the bill. As it is due to be discussed in the Dáil within the next few weeks, we would appreciate it if our legislators would deal with this request as a matter of urgency.
