Did lawyers take the place of Holy Spirit?

... Jaime Hyland wonders if it would be equally brass-necked to suggest the Holy Spirit made a mistake in guiding two of the participants in the conclave, Cardinals Bernard Law and Desmond O’Connell, on how to deal with child sexual abuse in their respective dioceses (Irish Examiner letters, April 26).

I know as much about the cardinals’ prayers on this horrific issue as I know about Jaime’s prayers or lack of them, or his religion or lack of it.

It would seem the cardinals may have been guided by lawyers in this case, but as I know neither of them, I can’t be certain.

The only thing I am certain of is my deep sorrow for the victims and their parents.
