Childcare funding vital for continued education

CONGRATULATIONS, Evelyn Ring, for covering our protest outside Dublin Castle against childcare budget cuts to VECs (Irish Examiner, February 4).

The Department of Education complains that the cost of this budget keeps increasing. This is because it is successful in what it sets out to do encouraging single parents to improve their economic prospects by continuing their education.

We are asking the department to make a proper commitment to this area and tell the VECs now so they can make proper plans for 2004.
