Ó Cuiv walking on a political tightrope

I NOTE that Eamon Ó Cuiv, Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, speaking in the Dáil on November 29, reckons that there is no need to have rights of way listed in county development plans.

Ó Cuiv walking on a political tightrope

At the moment rights of way are normally not signposted and are not marked on the maps.

So now, in addition, the minister reckons they do not even need to be listed. We therefore have no idea where they are or indeed if any exist at all.

Walkers will note this shameful attempt by the minister to have his cake (try to fool walkers) and eat it (keep in with the farmers and other landowners). I hope walkers will now push for real rights of way of the type enjoyed in other European countries.
