Restoration of St Anne's

I WAS delighted to read Michael McAuliffe's letter referring to St Anne's Shandon (Irish Examiner, February 18).

Restoration of St Anne's

The southern roof has been re-slated (€136,000) and work on the north side is underway (€171,000). When complete, we will begin cleaning and conserving the tower (€400,000).

Work will start on the interior once the roof work is complete. We intend to have much of this done before 2005. The total cost of restoration has been estimated at between €1.5 and €2m.

We have received grant assistance from the Heritage Council, the National Development Plan and €100,000 from Cork City Council. However, completion will require fundraising and we will be launching a major appeal in March.
