My granduncle died on hunger strike
A native of Denbawn, Co Cavan, he was the agricultural inspector for the Mallow area for many years and supported the Anti-Treaty side during the civil war.
He is buried in the republican plot in Mallow and I believe there is a memorial plaque on the bridge leading to the graveyard. He boarded at 160, West End, Mallow, and mentions in many of his letters from Mountjoy a Dick Willis who, I believe, lived on the same street.
