Smoking ban will save fortune on health

ISN’T it time that those who oppose the ban on smoking in pubs and restaurants got a grip on themselves.

Smoking ban will save fortune on health

The outcry against the ban is unbelievable everyone knows that smoking is injurious to health, and not just for those who indulge.

Let's hope that the Minister for Health, Micheál Martin, stands fast and is not distracted from imposing the ban next January. His colleagues in the Dáil who disagree with him should get sense and back him wholeheartedly instead of endeavouring to undermine him through the media.

Hundreds of millions of euro spent yearly on the health of the nation will be saved in a few short years.

The anti-ban lobby are hysterically putting out erroneous suggestions that pubs and restaurants will lose business and jobs will be lost. How ridiculous! When the dust has settled it will be all too obvious that neither will have happened. The Irish are not by and large, stay-at-home people. They like to go out, socialise and enjoy themselves.

Doing so in a smoke-free atmosphere will become quite acceptable to the vast majority.
