ON April 27 this year I travelled by air from Paris to Dublin courtesy of Ryanair. Because of excess baggage weight, I was charged more for it than for my flight - €80.47 for the flight and €90 for the baggage.

I had travelled from Canada to London and London to Paris the previous week with the same baggage at no extra expense.

If you wish to avail of cheap flights, check out all the fine print. When I was a teenager growing up in Ireland in the 1950s an elderly man once said to me, “cheap is expensive”. My experience with Ryanair is a good example of his wisdom.
