Johnson’s behaviour an insult to the President

I HAVE always admired rugby football for its adherence to protocol and for its traditions of fair play. In the schools we try to instil these traditions in our young players.

Johnson’s behaviour an insult to the President

Therefore, I regard Martin Johnson’s boorish behaviour before the game on Saturday as absolutely appalling. What he passes off as a “fuss about nothing” was an insult to the President who is the representative of the Irish people.

Johnson has done a great disservice to rugby football and should, as a result, forfeit the right to captain such a magnificent English team. Captaincy and success also have their responsibilities, even in a professional era.
