World music gig was out of tune

I ATTENDED the World Music Festival at the Opera House’s Half Moon Theatre in Cork on Sunday, July 31. I went to see the renowned musician Talvin Singh. I had several disappointments with the event.

World music gig was out of tune

Although the gig was advertised on posters and on the Opera House website, there was no mention of its start time. Upon questioning staff at the venue, I got answers ranging from 8pm to midnight. I and many others had to hang around for much of the evening waiting for the doors to open.

Secondly, the tickets were advertised at €15 but cost €20 at the door. There is often an extra charge for tickets at the door but normally it is only €1 not €5.

Finally, during the set by Talvin Singh, there was a technical problem with the equipment, and his performance had to stop for 10 minutes. This had a negative effect on the rest of the performance.

The Opera House’s slogan is: “Old friends are best.” A more accurate one would be: “With friends like these, who needs enemies?”.
