HAVING debased ourselves as an independent nation by erecting a monument to Francis Drake in Carrigaline, Co Cork, and restoring the monument to Queen Victoria in Dun Laoghaire, should we not now go the whole hog to please our former colonial masters?

Perhaps we should erect a monument to the late British Prime Minister Edward Heath?

Once again, we are shamed by the attitudes of subservience and servility among some of our political and social elite. Just how many generations does it take to breed out the colonial gene?
