Martin Gleeson's call for a boycott against Israel (Irish Examiner, July 29) is naive in the extreme.

His letter reeks of anti-Israel invective and it is evident that he harbours a deep hatred of the State of Israel.

For people like Gleeson, nothing that Israel does in the defence of its citizens is acceptable. Israel’s attack on the terrorist leader Shehadeh, murderer of hundreds of innocent Israelis, was a necessary act of self-defence.
