What’s the point?
Elected Cork county councillors took the people’s wishes into account and voted 30 to 13, with two abstentions, not to build an incinerator in Ringaskiddy.
An expensive and lengthy public inquiry gave 14 reasons why this incinerator should not be built.
Both decisions were summarily overturned by unelected government officials. Democracy at work? I think not.
What is the point in having democratically-elected representatives if their decisions are not adhered to? What is the point in voting in June if we continue to have democracy Irish-style?
