A CONVICTED rapist is finally imprisoned after the recent decision by the Court of Criminal Appeal.

Inconsistent sentences no help to rape victims

The Director of Public Prosecutions challenged the suspension of John Leech’s four-year sentence for rape and this challenge was upheld by the Court of Criminal Appeal. He will now serve the full sentence in jail.

Rape Crisis Network Ireland (RCNI) wholeheartedly welcomes this outcome. This result came on the same day that a 79-year-old man had most of his eleven-year sentence for rape and indecent assault suspended.
