June 16 is the 35th anniversary of the assassination of his brother, Robert.

JFK said he gathered ”the best and brightest” around him.

Among them was Larry O’Brien, a member of his administration, and also chairman of the Democratic Party.

His mother came from just outside Dunmanway and, at that time, his aunt lived there. She and others were invited as VIPs to Cork City Hall on the morning of the president’s visit.

After the assassination of Kennedy in Dallas, O’Brien became a successful lawyer in New York and died in recent years.
