Town deserves more than sub–office status

AS A native of Clonakilty, and the son of a man who gave 42 years of impeccable service to An Post — or P&T as it was then — I am alarmed at the decision to downgrade our post office to sub-office status.

Here we have the country’s only post office in a disused church. It amazes tourists, and locals are often congratulated on the uniqueness of it all. The same tourists often offer support and encouragement to those who have been campaigning to save it.

It is simply impractical to downgrade our post office. Recently I started a new job but I was late because I was delayed in the post office by the long queues. I pass by there most mornings and it is always the same story... queues out the door.
