A radical idea: Use health levy to pay for health

MANY of the elderly people lying on trolleys in A&E departments paid PRSI all their lives.

They probably thought that when they retired they would no longer have to pay PRSI. Not so.

They still have to pay what is called a Class K contribution, better known to you and me as the health levy. So, instead of talking about supplementary estimates, could Mary Harney not insist that the health levy be ring-fenced and used exclusively for health.
