Irish success

THE Irish Examiner is a newspaper of repute. Consequently, one would expect that all figures quoted in it would be verified in advance.

Irish success

This appears not to have been the case in relation to paragraph three of the leading article which concerned Leaving Certificate Irish results (The Irish Examiner, August 15) which states that “several thousand” did not sit the Irish exam.

The correct figures are available from the Department of Education. To rectify the negative impression which may have been conveyed, it should be pointed out that well over 75% of students at all three levels of the Leaving Certificate Irish class of 2002 acquired Honours.
