Report welcomed

THE Forum on Broadcasting Report failed to tackle RTÉ’s monopoly in Irish broadcasting. Notwithstanding this, we should welcome the report for several reasons, including the conclusion that another body should be formed to regulate RTÉ’s various business interests.

The forum’s finding that RTÉ has failed to be properly transparent and accountable in it’s operations, and its conclusion that public funding of the station must be conditional upon it becoming fully accountable and transparent, is a positive development.

Licence payers may finally get answers to where the billions of euro pumped into RTÉ down the years have gone.
