Alcohol-free teenage event a huge success
Six hundred sober but excited and very well behaved youths were able to have a total ‘Blast’ while choosing to remain sober.
Their St Patrick’s day Blast event in the Temple Bar music centre was a fantastic success, a great example of young people having a brilliant time, just getting off on their music, energy and the atmosphere created by seven rock bands and a full house of their fans and friends.
In contrast, when the event was over at 5.30pm and these young people emerged into the chaos of the city centre, there was a pathetic spectacle of many inebriated adults falling around the place. They also witnessed some really aggressive behaviour that was very disturbing, but maybe it was an object lesson for them as to how ugly inebriation really is and how unattractive it makes people.
The Blast organisation and the St Patrick’s day festival committee are to be congratulated for organising a very successful, alcohol-free live music event for under-18s.
These Blast alcohol-free music events should be happening all over the country not only on St Patrick’s day, but every weekend. Blast is a non-profit organisation run by teenagers for teenagers - see www.blast.ie.
They need our support and teenagers need such opportunities to express themselves creatively and socially.
