AFTER the Grand Slam game against England, Irish rugby supporters are left bitterly disappointed. Despite all the hype, the Irish team was shown up by an England side who are clearly in a different league.

This game highlighted the dilemma facing international rugby and the reason why, I believe, a World Cup competition is not viable.

There are three tiers. At the top are Australia, New Zealand, England, France and South Africa. The second tier is made up of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Italy and Argentina.
