Incineration is not a panacea

THE article entitled ‘Swedes may have answer to burning issue of incineration’ does not mention the waste of resources, the greenhouse gases, the toxic chemicals produced by incinerators, the health effects, or that incinerators only reduce waste by two-thirds and leave behind a concentrated toxic ash.

Incineration is not a panacea

Waste does not represent renewable energy. It's rubbish to suggest that incinerators turn waste into heat energy: incinerators are a waste of energy. Recycling saves more energy than incineration yields. The planet would be saved three to five times more energy by recycling material than is typically incinerated in modern trash incinerators.

Incinerators rarely produce the 40% waste-to-energy figure that is bandied around.
