On the fast track to China
As well as strutting her stuff on the catwalks of Shanghai, dubbed the Paris of the East, the blonde from Blackrock will also get a chance to act in China’s version of the teen-soap Home and Away, Shanghai’s version of Fair City and TV commercials. Caroline, aged 20, is learning Chinese before she goes but her voice will be dubbed for Chinese viewers.
She said she was really looking forward to her big break.
“I’ll be working with the Redmod Agency. It’s one of the biggest agencies over there.
“It’s a massive market and this is an opportunity I just couldn’t turn down,” she said.
Caroline landed the contract thanks in part to Cork’s twinning arrangement with Shanghai. She modelled during a fashion show as part of the twinning ceremonies in May. “I got to love the Chinese culture and fashion and later I did an ad for EcoSense in Mallow,” she said.
“EcoSense’s managing director, Tom Nyhan, had contacts in Shanghai and he contacted me to say agencies in Shanghai were always looking for western models.
“He set me up with contacts who offered me a contract.”
Caroline is due back at UCC in early October to finish her accounting degree.
“But if this contract goes well, I’ll definitely go back,” she said.
