DARINA ALLEN (Irish Examiner, August 25) says that farmers and food producers are not being paid a fair price for what they produce.

I would like partly to take issue with this proposition. Farmers are certainly not being paid anything near what they need for their produce. Food producers, however, are another story.

Irish consumers are paying way above the European norm for basic food items.
