The final chapter

I WISH to add my voice to that of Michael O’Donnell (Irish Examiner letters, Sept 10) in relation to the possible closure of the Cork Centre for the Unemployed.

Has philistinism taken over City Hall? The centre, in addition to a wide variety of services, has a writers’ workshop to which I had the honour of being invited recently. It was a joy to see and hear the participants read and explain their own work.

It is so shortsighted even to consider closing this centre.
