Charity or extortion?

I HAD the idea that the spirit of Christmas had something to do with the joy of giving.

However, after being harassed every few yards by tin rattlers on Cork’s Patrick’s Street I wonder if spontaneous generosity has any place in the Ireland of the 21st century.

I am happy to contribute to good causes but I resent being forced to put my hand in my pocket by aggressive charity ambushers.
